A Different Wind To The Rest Of The Valley
Franschhoek's valley is closed on three sides by the Franschhoek, Wemmershoek and Groot Drakenstein ranges, which funnels cool mountain air down most evenings as the land cools faster than the air above it — a nightly drainage wind that behaves differently to the calmer pattern out toward Paarl. An awning or screen left extended at dusk here is the thing that actually gets caught out, which is exactly why every exterior product we fit gets a motorised wind sensor.
Heritage character, without the permit assumption: many older Franschhoek-area facades carry genuine heritage character even where a specific building isn't formally listed on a register we'd guess at. Where a fixing point lands on an older gable or street-facing wall, we flag that plainly before proposing an external product — an inside-mount blind that needs no facade fixing at all is often the lower-friction answer.
What We Fit Most Often Here
- Timber venetian blinds for deep-set sash and casement windows in older cottages and farmhouses.
- Roller blinds for guest-cottage and family-home volume glazing.
- Folding-arm awnings and zip screens for courtyard and stoep areas, with the evening-wind auto-retract logic above.
